The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee
• The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee was created on October 2, 2007, soon after the successful completion of the Bidding phase. It was founded by the Russian Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy, and the city of Sochi’s Administration. The Norwegian Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, opened the conference on the humanitarian impact of nuclear weapons, Monday 4 March 2013.
Senior humanitarian aid workers, United Nations organisations, government representatives from nearly 127 countries and civil society members met in Norway, under the leadership of the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss what the international community can realistically do to prepare for and to respond to the humanitarian impact of a nuclear weapon detonation.
