At least eight people have been killed and more than 50 others wounded in a new spate of attacks in the Iraqi capital Baghdad as well as northern and western Iraq, according to security and medical officials.
Gunmen shot dead four policemen and wounded three others at a checkpoint in the town of Al-Garma in Fallujah, west of the capital, AFP reported on Thursday.
As emergency workers and civilians rushed to the scene to aid the victims, a roadside bomb went off, wounding three others.
In another incident in the northern city of Kirkuk, four car bomb explosions killed one person and wounded 20 others, including an unspecified number of security forces.
Several bomb blasts in the town of Tuz Khurmatu, Dibis and Taji, all north of Baghdad, and in the capital itself killed another three people and wounded 24 others.
The attacks come a day after 14 people were killed in attacks north of Baghdad.
According to a tally by AFP, Tuesday’s incidents are the latest in a string of attacks that have left at least 153 people, including 67 security forces, dead across the country this month.
