Underwear Thefts Makes Police Worry

A worrying sexual twist to a sleepout burglary in Canterbury has sparked a police appeal for information. Five pairs of knickers were stolen when the small sleepout was ransacked the weekend before last while the 19-year-old female occupant was away. The door of the sleepout, at the back of her family's property in Rolleston, was unlocked.

Constable Chris Caldwell described the scenario as "disturbing".

"Several drawers were tipped out in an apparent attempt to look for money or jewellery while the teenage girl was away. What is disturbing though is that five pairs of knickers were stolen, " he said.

Evidence showed that so- called "minor" sexually-related offending such as this could escalate over time to more serious offending. "We would like to hear from anyone who has come across or discovered underwear not belonging to them or a family member." TOT News
