Sydney. Chamanjot Singh who cut his wife's throat after she threatened to throw him out of their family home has been found guilty of manslaughter. After three days of deliberation, a jury today returned a guilty verdict for 24-year-old Chamanjot Singh, who killed his wife Manpreet Kaur by cut her throat eight times with a box cutter at their home in December 2009.

The jury had been told that while there was no dispute Singh had killed her, he had been caught in a "triangle of desperation" because he believed she'd been unfaithful to him, he'd been in financial trouble and feared deportation.

He pleaded not guilty to her murder on the grounds of provocation, but the jury were told they could also return a verdict on a charge of manslaughter if they were not satisfied the grounds for murder had been met.

Giving evidence last week, Singh told the jury "I just lost it, I had no control over my body or my mind and couldn't remember what had happened". He said he had only grabbed the box cutter, which he used in his work as a sports store cleaner, because his wife was telling him that she'd cut him.

The jury heard the pair had argued on the night, and Mrs. Kaur had called a relative in India who admonished Singh for sending money back to his mother.

"(Manpreet) then said to me that she'd never loved me," Singh told the jury.

"I give my life to this girl but she said "I love (another) man.'"

Paul Leask, Crown prosecutor told the jury that neighbours reported hearing Mrs. Kaur scream for mercy during the killing. Singh will face a sentencing hearing later this month. TOT News
