Venezuela opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez jailed for 13 years
Sept.11, Caracas: Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez was sentenced to 13 years and nice months in prison.
The 44 year-old was found guilty of inciting violence during protests in 2014 in which 43 people were killed. He has been held in a military prison since February 2014.
He will serve out his sentence in the military prison of Ramo Verde, where he has been held since February 2014.
A court in Caracas, the capital, found Lopez guilty late on Thursday for his role as the leader of a street protests movement, which was involved in bloody clashes with security forces in February last year.
Wielding sticks and plastic bottles, supporters of socialist President Maduro's government descended on a group of Lopez's followers who had been waiting since the early hours of the morning for the final phase of his trial, an AFP news agency repored.
