US issues worldwide alert for its citizens
Nov 24, NY: In response to the increased terrorist threats, America has issued a worldwide travel alert for its citizens.
The US state department said "current information" suggested the Islamic State (IS) group, al Qaeda, Boko Haram and others continued "to plan terrorist attack in multiple regions".
The alert has been issued until February 24, 2016. The alert comes as world witnessed deadly terrorist attacks from different extremist groups. In the past few months, deadly attacks have been carried out in France, Russia, Mali, Lebanon, Nigeria and several other countries.
"There is currently no reason to believe that US citizens would be specifically targeted," BBC quoted a US state department official.
Belgium has also raised the its security at the highest level citing an imminent threat in the wake of the deadliest attack in Paris that killed 130 people recently.
The travel alert advises US citizens to "exercise vigilance when in public places or using transportation". They are also advised to "be aware of immediate surroundings and avoid large crowds or crowded places".
