US claims Syria is preparing for another chemical attack

June 27, Damascus: Washington has made claims that the Syrian government is preparing for a chemical attack, after the suspected gas attack in Idlib province in April that had killed over 80 people dead and injured scores of civilians.

The US statement issued today warned President Bashar al-Assad of "a heavy price" if another strike occurred.
It said "another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime" was likely to result "in the mass murder of civilians".
"As we have previously stated, the United States is in Syria to eliminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. If, however,
Mr Assad conducts another mass murder attack using chemical weapons, he and his military will pay a heavy price."

White House officials, have not yet responded to requests for comment on potential U.S. plans or the intelligence that prompted the statement about Syria's preparations for an attack.President Trump, however  took to Twitter not long after the statement went out, focused his attention on a Fox News report related to former President Barack Obama and the 2016 election rather than developments in Syria.

Meanwhile, Assad in an interview with the AFP news agency earlier this year had stated that the alleged April attack was "100 percent fabrication" used to justify a U.S. air strike.

Although the US government has warned the Syrian government against using chemical weapons, it has not really given a justification as to why the US led coalition used the lethal white phosphorous in Raqqa and Mosul. White phosphorous is known to have long lasting side effects and can even burn people to the bone if  it comes to contact with them and is tehrefore against international law to use munition in densely populated places.
