Norway to resume support economic and social disparities in Hungary
Dec 12,Oslo: The suspension of disbursements of funds to Hungary under the EEA and Norway Grants scheme has been lifted. This means that Norway will resume its support for reducing economic and social disparities in Hungary.‘The suspension has been lifted because the Hungarian authorities have fulfilled the conditions set by Norway regarding the control functions and implementation of the Grants in Hungary,’ said Minister of EEA and EU Affairs Vidar Helgesen.
The Hungarian authorities have also guaranteed that they will respect the agreements on the management of the funds allocated by Norway to Hungarian NGOs.
Hungary is one of the largest recipients of funding under the EEA and Norway Grants. For the current period (2009–14) the funding to Hungary totals EUR 153.3 million.
Payments to most of the programme areas have been suspended since 9 May 2014, as a result of a breach by the Hungarian authorities of the agreements they had entered into on the management of the Grants. However, the programme areas on NGOs (EUR 13.5 million) and on climate adaptation (EUR 7 million) have been exempt from the suspension.
