Kabul: Explosion, gunfire near military hospital and US Embassy

Mar 8:  An explosion has gone off near the military hospital and the US embassy in Kabul, on Wednesday morning.

According to our correspondent,  a suicide bomber first burst into the Sardar Muhammad Dawood's hospital (which is a military hospital) to clear the way for the gunmen who are believed to have fired inside the hospital. Similarly, an eyewitness claims to have seen a gunman dressed as a doctor take out an AK-47 and open fire, killing at least one patient and one hospital worker. He also heard shots from several other points.

The 400-bed hospital is located near two civilian hospitals in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul, home to several heavily guarded embassies including the US Embassy. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack, but the attack is very similar to the attacks targeting two police headquarters on 1 March.
