    Gas pipe explosion in China kills 8 and injures 35: Reports

    July 2, Beijing: Eight people were killed and 35 injured in a gas pipe explosion in China, according to Xinhua news agency.

    The sate news agency reported that the accident had taken place at 10:44am local time near a stretch of the Shanghai-Kunming expressway in southwest China’s Qinglong County, according to Chinese officials.

    According to reports, approximately 53 firefighters had to be deployed to tackle the incident. Meanwhile, traffic on the expressway was also brought to a standstill, until the blaze was brought under control at about 1pm.
