Community protest against Kaduna authorities plan to confiscate their land

March 3: Kaduna-- Danhono Residents in Danbushiya a suburb of Kaduna metropolis in their hundred staged a peaceful demonstration against the state government plans to confiscate their land without due compensation.
The peaceful demonstration was to demand justice from the state government according to their leaders.The protesters stormed Nigerian Union of Journalists Secretariat in the state as early as 9 am Thursday 2016. They displayed placards with inscription such as “El-rufai is a cheat”,” Enough is enough, Osinbajo!! El-rufai will tarnish your image “We Demand Justice'
The residents spokesman of Danhono II Land owners, Mr. Lucky Akpojosevbe said, they decided to embark on the protest to inform general public about the injustice meted out on them by the government.
He stated that they will not rest on their oars until justice is done to them.
" we are in a democracy and our lands were forcefully taken over and given to the private developers under what the government called Public Private Partnership (PPP) without due process.
" The decision to confiscate our land without compensation , is unjust, dictatorial, fraudulent, anti-people as well as totally against the change mantra of the Buhari led APC government in this country.
“We all voted for APC change with the high hope of getting a change for the better, but it is unfortunate that, the likes of Governor El-rufa’I are spoiling the name of the APC change” He added.
They then charged all those affected by the confiscation of their lands in Dahono II, and other areas of the state to come out and voice their grievances as well as demand justice at all times.
Another land owner, Mansur Suleiman who was emotional said they will do everything possible to reclaim their lands, since the era of government impunity is over according to President Buhari.
“We will fight against government insensitivity, recklessness, and impunity and reclaim our lands since we have the right under sun to fight, secure and keep our lawful property,"he said.
Reacting to the protest, Director General Lands, Kaduna Geographic Information System,KADGIS, Alhaji Ibrahim Hussaini denied the allegation, saying " it is not true that the state government took over Danhono lands from community members without compensation,"
He explained that all those who have legal title would be compensated after all assessment of land owners have been completed.
“By Land use Act , nobody owns land without the governor allocating such land, but the Act does give power to the governor to take over lands without compensation.” We have commissioned the land for development and we would pay compensation after completing assessment .”He said.
