Australia to have new PM after Abbott loses leadership challenges
Sept.14, Sydney: Australia to get a new prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, after Tony Abbott lost a challenge for the leadership of the Liberal Party.
Turnbull, the former communications minister is to become Australia's 29th prime minister. He defeated Abbott in a party room spill with 54 votes to 44.
Liberal MPs also voted for Julie Bishop to remain deputy leader of the party.
Turnbull is expected to be sworn in after Abbott writes to the Governor General and resigns on Tuesday. Turnbull will be Australia's fourth prime minister since 2013.
