A day of national mourning begins in Italy
Aug27, Rome: A day of national mourning for the lives lost in he powerful earthquake that hit Italy has begun.
As search operations continue the death toll in the mountainous region of Italy has reached 278 and no survivors have been found since Wednesday evening.
The Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi will be attending state funerals for victims from Arquata, one of the worst-hit towns.
A state of emergency has been declared in affected areas and €50m in funds have been pledged for rebuilding. Despite this the authorities say they will continue the search until they are certain no-one is unaccounted for.
